Mr. Robert Chote

Mr. Robert Chote is Director of Institute of Fiscal Studies. He is also Governor of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research. He was formerly an adviser and speechwriter to the First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and Economics Editor of the Financial Times. He has carried out consultancy work for organizations including the United Nations and Commonwealth Secretariat. Mr Chote was educated in Cambridge and at City University in the UK, and at Johns Hopkins University in the US. His interests includes Macroeconomics and International Finance.

The Chair:

Mr. Chris Giles

Mr. Chris Giles has been an editorial writer on the Financial Times since 2000.  He writes editorials across the range of economic, business and political issues. He also writes regular features, the economics column "theory and practice" and contributes to the new FT agony aunt "the economist".  Previously he was BBC radio's economics correspondent, and spent seven years at the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

Mr. G. O’Donnell

Mr. O'Donnell is the First Permanent Secretary at H.M. Treasury. He was formerly the Managing Director of the Treasury's Macroeconomic Policy and International Finance Directorate and Head of the Government Economic Service. Mr. O’Donnell served abroad as Economic Minister at the British Embassy in Washington and UK Executive Director of the IMF and World Bank. Before then, he had served as Press Secretary to both the Chancellor and the Prime Minister. He took his first degree at Warwick University and a second degree in Economics at Oxford University (Nuffield College).

Mr. David Walton

Mr. David Walton is Chief European Economist for the US investment bank, Goldman Sachs. He joined Goldman Sachs from HM Treasury in 1987 and he became a  managing director in 1998. David is an advisor on UK monetary and fiscal policy issues to the House of Commons Treasury Committee. He takes over as Chairman of the Society of Business Economists in December and he is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He holds a masters degree in economics from the University of Warwick and a bachelors degree from the University of Durham.
